Dual Enrollment Agreement with Capitol Technology University
The College entered into an agreement with Capitol Technology University for a Guaranteed Dual Admissions Program Agreement. Under its terms, the institutions will facilitate the admission of eligible students enrolled at HCC who complete an associate degree (A.A., A.A.S., or A.S.E.) program into a select four-year bachelor’s degree (B.S.) program offered at Capitol Tech.
The programs in focus include computer engineering, computer science, construction management, cybersecurity, electrical engineering, electronic technology, game and simulation, and engineering. Eligible students who complete this contract are guaranteed admission to Capitol Tech with a pathway toward completing the bachelor of science degree.
Hospitality Management Apprenticeship Programs

Two new Registered Apprenticeship Programs in Hospitality Management combine academic instruction with practical experience and industry partnerships to equip apprentices with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities necessary for a successful career.
The Food Service Manager apprenticeship provides training to become a chef, kitchen manager, or back of house manager. The Hotel and Lodging Manager apprenticeship teaches apprentices skills to become a front desk manager, sales manager, or event manager. In these “earn-as-you- learn” programs, apprentices will gain a solid academic foundation, essential business and technical knowledge, and on-the-job experience to work as an entry or mid-level manager in hotels, restaurants, resorts, or other facilities that provide food and beverage service or accommodations.

National Apprenticeship Week Accolades
HCC took center stage at the Maryland Department of Labor Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony during National Apprenticeship Week in November. Governor Wes Moore and Howard County Executive Calvin Ball highlighted the significance of apprenticeships in shaping the future workforce. The spotlight shone particularly bright on two HCC students – Tiffany Gaither and Stacy Brown. They were both honored with the prestigious Outstanding Apprentice 2023 award.
Tiffany emerged as a standout HCC student and Johns Hopkins Hospital registered apprentice, leaving an indelible mark on the healthcare community. Colleagues commend her for always working hard, asking insightful questions, and consistently presenting the best version of herself. Stacy’s ability to maintain grace under pressure, especially during a challenging period in her personal life, earned her a place at the top of her class. “It was an incredible and humbling experience to watch Tiffany and Stacy both win this coveted award,” said Jeff Richmond, director of apprenticeship and workforce innovation at HCC.
