
Dr. Shantay R. Grays, Provost and Executive Vice President
Dr. Shantay Grays is the provost and executive vice president at Howard Community College since August 14, 2023. She provides leadership, oversight of student services, academic affairs, advising, development, engagement, and enrollment services. She sets goals and strategies for student success to support faculty and staff at Howard Community College. Prior to joining Howard Community College, Dr. Grays had been serving at the Houston Community College District since 1998. She held various positions within Houston Community College, including associate vice chancellor of enrollment services and student engagement, student services, and teaching and learning, chief of staff to the chancellor, executive officer to the chancellor, director of student success & special projects, and manager of student services initiatives. As the vice chancellor for student services, Dr. Grays provided leadership and college-wide oversight.
As provost & executive vice president, Dr. Grays will provide leadership, oversight of student services, and supervision in academic affairs, advising, development, engagement, and enrollment services. She sets goals and strategies for student success to support faculty and staff at Howard Community College. Additionally, she is affiliated with professional organizations such as the NASPA Student Affairs Association, the National Council on Black American Affairs, The Presidents’ Roundtable, the American Association of Women in Community Colleges, and the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Grays earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration with a concentration in Community College Leadership from the University of Texas-Austin. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Grambling State University and a Master of Public Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management. She has served on the Hispanic Educational Technology Services Board, the Houston Guided Pathways Governing Council, the #RealCollege Texas Advisory Council, and the Texas Talent Regions Coalition.
