What is Cybersecurity?
Cybersecurity is the art of protecting networks, devices, and data from unauthorized access or criminal use and the practice of ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information.
Ongoing Initiatives at HCC
Our collective efforts help to mitigate malicious efforts, while keeping instruction, learning, and working environments available and secure.
Enhanced Password Security: Passwords are your first line of defense against cybercriminals and data breaches, particularly when used in conjunction with multifactor authentication (MFA). At HCC, the password character limit has increased to a minimum of 15 characters. This change improves our cyber hygiene and allows us to maintain compliance with current industry standards.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): MFA is another required layer of security protection that requires us to provide two verification factors (password and MFA) to gain access to college online resources. Employees are currently utilizing DUO MFA, and that requirement is being implemented with student accounts.
Security Awareness Training: All HCC employees are now required to take an online training course to learn more about phishing and password security. The four brief training videos will help hone your skills in protecting our data assets, and how to recognize and act upon a suspicious email. These training courses are available through Power School and eligible for credit.
