Smart Ways to Save on Textbooks
Textbooks can be one of the biggest expenses in college—but they don’t have to be. Whether you're signing up for a Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) course, choosing a degree path with free materials, or reselling your used books to offset costs, there are more ways than ever to reduce what you spend.
ZTC courses and Z-Degrees use free, digital resources—called Open Educational Resources (OER)—so there’s no need to buy a textbook. And if you do purchase books, selling them after the semester can help you recoup some of the cost. Explore your options and take control of your college costs.
Choose ZTC Courses & Z-Degrees
Looking for a great money-saving idea? Register for a Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) Course or pursue a Z-Degree to save on the high costs of textbooks. A ZTC Course is a section of a course where there is no required purchase of a textbook; in ZTC courses, instructors provide textbook instructional materials electronically using Open Educational Resources (OER), which are free resources for teaching, learning, and research. A Z-Degree is a program that allows students the option to earn an associate degree by completing courses without spending money on textbooks. All required textbooks are provided for free online or in other accessible formats.
