Radiologic (X-Ray) Technology - A.A.S. Degree (Career)
Radiologic Technologists (RT) perform diagnostic imaging examinations. They are a vital member of the medical team since the radiologist interpreting the images depends on the skills and expertise of the RT performing the initial exam to make a correct diagnosis. RTs are educated in anatomy, radiographic procedures, patient positioning, equipment operations, radiation safety, and patient care. With the variety of imaging technology today, RTs often specialize in a specific post-primary certification, including: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), Mammography, Quality Management (QM), Bone Densitometry, Cardiac-Interventional (CI) Radiography, Vascular-Interventional (VI) Radiography, Vascular Sonography, or Breast Sonography. A career in Radiologic Technology provides competitive salaries, job security, and geographical flexibility.
Graduates of HCC's associate career degree Radiologic (X-Ray) Technology program are eligible to apply for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification examination. (NOTE: Beginning on January 1, 2015, all candidates for primary pathway certification must have earned an academic degree before becoming certified.)
At the end of the radiologic science program, the students will be able to:
- Practice as a clinically competent entry-level technologist.
- Display strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrate communication skills in a healthcare setting.
- Conduct their duties in an ethical and professional manner with a clear understanding of cultural diversity and healthcare access inequity.
- Display proficiency in digital imaging skills.
