The Challenge
Next Day Blinds wanted to improve the English language skills of their workforce, which would directly remove the communication barriers that existed in the workplace. Next Day Blinds was confident that this investment would be recognized by employees as a valuable added benefit.
The Design
HCC’s Training & Development Solutions, English Language Center (ELC) and Next Day Blinds identified the knowledge and skills that were needed to improve communication in the workplace. The leadership at Next Day Blinds established goals with the ELC, focusing on improving efficiency and supervision.
Next Day Blinds wanted to make a positive impact on their workforce and knew that improved language skills would create opportunities for promotion and advancement. Additionally, Next Day Blinds recognized that this investment in their workforce would lead to improved worker retention. Next Day Blinds partnered with the English Language Center to develop a custom English training program, which included three days of on-site instruction per week.
The Impact
Next Day Blinds used this program as an incentive for model employees and was very pleased with the results of the program. An added benefit from this program’s development was that new employees desired to work at Next Day Blinds because of the company’s investment in their workforce.
