Project Elevate
Howard Community College (HCC) is excited to support young people who are looking for (or would benefit from) an alternative educational path. Project Elevate is grounded in an asset-based philosophy for justice-involved youth ages 16–21.
This asset-based approach emphasizes the strengths, resources, and positive qualities that young people possess, rather than focusing on their limitations or challenges. This approach recognizes that youth have inherent strengths and potential that can be harnessed to promote their well-being and positive outcomes. Project Elevate strives to elevate learning, elevate experiences, and — in the end — elevate students to success that changes the trajectory of their lives.
Positive youth development programs and interventions emphasize empowering young people, fostering their resilience, promoting their skills and competencies, and engaging them in meaningful opportunities that can contribute to positive outcomes. Project Elevate will include a combination of academic milestones, career and college readiness, skills development, and meaningful relationships for students to experience success, which will build more success.
HCC will leverage the well-established adult education, workforce, dual enrollment, cohort, advising, career, counseling, student life, tutoring, mentoring, and disability support programs on campus to support the program.
