The Medical Assistant program at HCC prepares students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits to pursue an entry-level position in the ambulatory medical field. The 4-month hybrid program is designed to prepare competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. This program concentrates on helping you acquire knowledge and develop skills in performing laboratory, clinical, and medical office procedures in a physician's office or ambulatory care clinic.
This course includes an online component as well as mandatory skills/lab sessions, and an extensive practical internship.
Course requirements:
- 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or GED
- Complete medical forms
- Speak, read, and write English
- Pass a criminal background check
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination

The Medical Assistant program is comprised of three courses designed to prepare you with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits to pursue an entry-level position in the ambulatory medical field. This program concentrates on helping you acquire knowledge and develop skills in performing laboratory, clinical, and medical office procedures in a physician’s office or ambulatory care clinic. This course includes an online component as well as mandatory skills/ lab sessions, and an extensive practical internship. Requirements: high school diploma/GED, you must pass a criminal background check, have a current BLS CPR certificate, and complete health forms required for patient contact. Students must also successfully complete XH-121, XH-122 and XH123 to receive a certificate. No refund seven days prior to the start date. The Medical Assistant skills program is designed to prepare you with the technical skills and work habits to pursue an entry-level position in the ambulatory medical field. The face to face skills course will equip you with the knowledge to conduct basic lab procedures, perform a variety of procedures conducted in a doctor office, practice performing various front office job duties, and some specific medical assistant functions that are required for special patient populations. You must successfully complete XH-121 Theory, and this course XH-122 to participate in the mandatory internship XH-123. Students must successfully complete, XH-121 Theory, and this course XH-123, in order to participate in the mandatory internship, XH 122. 6.0 CEUs.
The Medical Assistant Internship is intended to follow successful completion of Medical Assisting Theoretical Foundations XH-121 and Medical Assisting Skills Training XH-122. The internship will allow you the opportunity to practice and apply the skills and theoretical foundation you have acquired in a real world setting, under the supervision and guidance of experienced healthcare providers. You will receive a variety of opportunities to perform the job duties of a Medical Assistant in a variety of ambulatory care settings. You must successfully complete XH-121 Theory and XH-122 Skills training to participate in the mandatory internship XH-123. You must have completed the necessary Health Forms, Background Checks, and hold a valid BLS CPR card to participate in the mandatory Internship. offsite/schedule subject to partner facility availability, students will participate in 16-20 hours a week at an approved partner facility. Schedules will be arranged based on need of partner facility and on a one on one basis. 6.0 CEUs.
(The MA Internship will meet for a total of 60 hrs. over 4 weeks. Weekly schedules are determined between the student and the internship location)
