CORE Program for Adults With Developmental Disabilities

Discover HCC’s unique adult program serving students with special needs.

Adults with different abilities attending College Opportunities for Readiness Education (CORE) will be taught math and reading skills in an educational environment that seeks to improve or maintain each student’s academic level. Students will experience opportunities for learning that reflect their interests and individual needs.

Our CORE program is offered in a hybrid format. We meet Monday through Wednesday from 3– 5:30 p.m. on campus; Thursday and Friday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Cost: $380.00 per month (includes $310 in fees). Students register each month.

CORE Program Objectives
Some of the objectives of the CORE program are to:
- Practice, enhance or maintain math, language and reading skills.
- Collect research on various topics including vocational options.
- Discuss and review workplace expectations.
- Express appropriate advocacy techniques.
- Develop effective communication skills.
CORE Program Activities
- Monday and Wednesdays: Focus on English language activities.
- Tuesdays and Thursdays: Focus on math activities.
- Fridays: Various social and life skill activities designed around the students’ interests.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in activities on all parts of campus, including attending athletics events, visiting gallery exhibits, and listening to guest speakers.
