
Technical Requirements for eLearning
Hardware Requirements
To have the best potential for success online learners need to have specific computer hardware in order access course materials, interact with classmates and the instructor as well as create and submit required assessments. Computer hardware requirements are:
1. Operating System
- Windows 8.1 and newer
- Mac OSX 10.13 and newer
- ChromeOS – Cannot be used for online test taking.
2. Mobile Operating System
- iOS 13 and newer
- Android 7.0 and newer
3. Computer Speed and Processor
- Use a computer no older than 5 years when possible
- 4 GB of RAM, 8 GB is preferred
- Dual core Intel i3, i5, i7 or AMD Ryzen CPU
- 128 GB Harddrive, Solid State Disk (SSD) is preferred

4. Screen Resolution
Canvas is best viewed at a minimum of 1024 x 600.
5. Internet Capability
Though Canvas has been carefully crafted to accommodate low bandwidth environments many of the multimedia resources your instructor will use require high-speed/high-bandwidth Internet access.
A minimum of 512 Kbps is need for Canvas, Online courses using video conferencing require 1.0 Mbps up and down. You can check your internet speed at MLab
Software Requirements
1. Web Browser
Many applications that HCC students interact with work on a variety of browsers. However, the most stable browsers (especially for Canvas) are:
Ensure that JavaScript is enabled in any browser being used to access Canvas.

3. Productivity Applications
4. Screen Readers (if applicable)
