Partnering Organizations

How do community organizations collaborate with the program?

Each semester, the Center for Civic and Community Engagement partners with faculty members across college departments in order to engage students in meaningful volunteer service experiences connected to their course curriculum. Community partnerships with non-profit, education, and government organizations are established with a specific course connection in mind. As a result, the needs of organizations must align with the academic semester timeline and courses with which the Center is working.

Community Partnerships - Quick Reference:

• Approximately 25 course sections offer a required or optional service learning component each semester. 
• Students enrolled in these courses complete between 2 and 15 hours of service on average.
• Course integration models vary among classes. Some classes partner with a single organization for a special project, while other classes allow students to choose a site (from an approved list) with which to pursue a placement and complete a designated number of service hours.

(Students - please note if you are seeking a placement, you should check the CCCE Directory Canvas page for a list of approved sites for your course. This is an all-inclusive list and should NOT be used to select a partner to serve with for the semester.)

The Community Action Council of Howard County

Students assisted shoppers and sorted donations at the Howard County Foodbank, which provides groceries to community members facing food insecurity.

The Community Ecology Institute

Student volunteers prepared garden beds, planted, weeded, and harvested vegetables at Freetown Farm, a project dedicated to teaching agricultural skills to the local community.

Grassroots Day Resource Center

HCC students provided information to residents and distributed resources in the basic needs pantry at the Grassroots shelters.

Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks

Student volunteers supported participants in therapeutic recreation programs such as zumba, bowling, and art class.

Howard County Public Schools Health Services

Students assisted school nurses with administering hearing and vision screenings and vaccine clinics.

Moveable Feast

HCC students prepared medically tailored meals to deliver to Marylanders living with chronic illnesses.

My Sister's Place

Student volunteers served hot meals to women in need at a shelter in Baltimore.

Patapsco Heritage Greenway

Volunteers cared for newly-planted trees at the Patapsco State Park.

Paul's Place

Students served meals and sorted donations at a soup kitchen in Baltimore.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Baltimore

HCC students cooked and served dinner for families staying at the house while their children undergo medical treatment.

Success in Style

Student volunteers sorted donated professional clothing to support community members in need during their job search.

Therapeutic and Recreational Riding Center

Volunteers walked alongside horses to ensure safety during equine therapy sessions for riders with special needs.

Youth and Teen Center at the Barn

Students planned activities and presentations to promote dental hygiene to local youth.
