Fueling Dragons
The Fueling Dragons program at Howard Community College encompasses several initiatives with the goal of providing immediate support for students facing hunger or food insecurity and working to build sustainable nutrition, food sourcing, and preparation skills.
Vivian C. "Millie" and William Harrison Bailey Food Pantry
Stocked through generous donations from employees, students, Howard County businesses, and community members, the campus food pantry exclusively serves Howard Community College students. It provides access to nutritious food and personal care items, offering a variety of frozen meats and vegetables, fresh and non-perishable goods, and seasonal items from the garden.
Utilizing a nutritional value-based food organizations system, SWAP (Supporting Wellness at Pantries), and hosting a series of cooking classes, the pantry extends its role beyond food provision to imparting sustainable skills.
With approximately 120 students receiving food from the pantry each week, your $30 donation could ensure that one more student has access to essential nourishment for an entire week, allowing them to focus on their studies and thrive academically.
Meal Kits
Meal kits, available in the food pantry, include supplies to begin building a home pantry as well as a recipe and all the ingredients a student needs to prepare a healthy meal at home.
With approximately 30 meal kits being distributed per week, each capable of feeding a family of 4 people, your $50 contribution aids a family in learning sustainable food preparation and helps stock their at-home pantry, fostering independence and resilience in times of need.
Campus Garden
The mission of the Howard Community College garden is to provide a space where students, faculty, staff, and community members can work and learn together to grow vegetables in a sustainable manner. Produce from the garden is distributed through the food pantry, providing fresh and healthy vegetables to students.
Access to fresh produce is limited in a food pantry setting, with HCC having its very own garden, students not only have access to fresh produce, but can also learn how to grow their own. Your $25 donation can help our students and garden grow.
Support the Food Pantry
Monetary donations: your generous support is critical to help HCC students overcome food security and develop lifelong healthy habits and skills.
