HCC and St. John Baptist Church Partner to Launch Monthly Free Breakfast Distribution

COLUMBIA, MD – Howard Community College (HCC) and St. John Baptist Church today launched a monthly free breakfast distribution to HCC students, extending their shared commitment to limiting the impact of food insecurity on deserving scholars.
Students will be able to grab and go with fruits, granola bars, muffins, and other items as they head to classes on the first Monday of each month. No registration is required and all students are welcome as supplies last throughout the distribution.
The initiative is the latest in a series of philanthropic and outreach initiatives organized by the church in support of HCC. The multi-year partnership between the congregation and the college has yielded hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of student scholarships, programs, and college advancement.
"We could not be more honored by and grateful for this amazing effort to support our students," said HCC President Daria J. Willis. "St. John and Rev. Turner have been exemplary partners in our college's growth as a true community resource in the fight for socioeconomic parity and opportunity for all people. The congregation has been a constant source of spiritual, financial, and academic inspiration for our students, and we cannot express how much their fellowship and alliance means to our mission and our future."
“At St. John Baptist Church, we believe that nourishing the body and soul is essential," said Rev. Dr. Robert Turner, Senior Pastor of the St. John Baptist Church. "By sponsoring breakfasts for students at HCC, we aim to alleviate hunger and create a space where everyone feels valued and cared for. Our partnership with HCC is not just about food; it’s about fostering a sense of community. A well-fed mind is better equipped to learn, grow, and thrive. We are partnering with HCC so that hunger is one less obstacle on students’ educational journeys.”
The distribution will be held on the first Monday of each month in the Ecker Café on the Quad, housed in the Rouse Company Foundation Student Services Hall, beginning at 10 a.m.
