Fast Track Your Education and Career with Accelerated (7-Week) Courses!

Register now for HCC's Accelerated 7-Week Courses at Howard Community College (HCC).
Accelerated courses provide a condensed alternative to traditional semester-long classes*, enabling faster degree completion. With many courses available online or scheduled remote, students can balance studies with work, family, and personal commitments.
Benefits of enrolling include:
- Cost savings: Accelerating your progress can reduce education costs and potentially increase available financial aid.
- Efficiency: Covering standard semester material in just 7 weeks accelerates your degree completion and opens doors to career opportunities sooner.
- Flexibility: Courses are available online, asynchronous, and face-to-face formats. This flexibility allows students to balance their educational goals with work and internship commitments, extracurricular activities, and family time.
- Focused attention: Condensed coursework promotes deeper engagement and better retention of material.
According to Dr. Toni Sims Muhammad, Associate Vice President for Teaching and Learning and a lead facilitator on HCC’s 7-week course initiative, “Students can benefit in many ways by taking 7-week classes. They can complete their degree program by taking at least two classes every 7 weeks, which means students earn 12 or more credits each term.” Dr. Muhammad adds, “HCC has invested considerable resources to support student success in 7-week classes, including faculty training on intentional course design and embedded course learning supports such as tutoring and advising.”

*Accelerated courses launched in the fall of 2024, however, traditional semester-length (15-week) courses continue to be offered. Students can enroll in 7-week and 15-week courses simultaneously depending on their schedule and program of study. Students should work with an academic advisor.
