HCC’s Horowitz Center continues its 2023-2024 season with many theatre, music, and art gallery offerings this spring. For theatre, audiences can enjoy “Mouse on the Move,” April 11-14, and “Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical,” May 2-5. Music offerings include the HCC Concert series, April 13, 27, and 28, and the HCC student concert, May 5-10. Art gallery exhibits consist of the Howard County Public School System’s (HCPSS) Junior and Senior Exhibitions. Read more!

HCC students Adeniwa Ajuwon, Calista Brigham, and Rebecca Overton are semifinalists for the competitive Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship through the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. These scholarships are awarded to community college students “who have demonstrated exceptional academic ability, leadership, and service transfer to top four-year institutions and avoid student debt.” Congratulations to Adeniwa, Calista, and Rebecca! HCC Men's Basketball Team will face the No. 18 seed Florida State College at Jacksonville in the first round of the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, Illinois on March 18. “I could not be more proud of this team,” said Mike Smelkinson, director of athletics and head men’s basketball coach. Howard County's Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and the Columbia Housing Center (CHC) have announced a Student Rental Subsidy Program to help HCC students find and rent local housing. "This funding provides students and families vulnerable to housing insecurity the opportunity to receive assistance towards the cost of housing. Eliminating this burden allows students to focus on their pathways to success in work and life," said Daria J. Willis, president of HCC. Read More!

HCC and St. John Baptist Church launched a monthly free breakfast distribution to HCC students, extending their shared commitment to limiting the impact of food insecurity on deserving scholars. Student Advocacy Day is an annual, statewide event where students from Maryland's 16 community colleges share their stories with legislators and advocate for community college funding. HCC's 13 students spent the day advocating for equitable funding to support services and cohort programs. Oluwatunmise (Tunmise) Eboda, SGA VP, was selected as the keynote speaker and shares, "Affordable education is an investment in our future, one where everyone has an opportunity to meet their full potential."

The Howard County Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) has generously awarded a $60K grant that will cover full instructional costs for 17 registered apprentices studying in HCC’s cybersecurity certification program. "We look forward to seeing the success of this cohort of apprentices, and the college growing as a regional and national partner in cybersecurity capacity building,” said Jennifer Jones, CEO of HCEDA.
